POSITION: Varsity Head Softball Coach JOB DESCRIPTION: The head softball coach will help student athletes to realize their potential through the provision of instruction, leadership, and encouragement. The coach will work to promote fair play, mentor athletes, and work with community and families. The softball coach will be expected to have regular and reliable attendance. JOB / DISTRICT / COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHTS: Our district lives our mission statement of preparing an unprecedented number of students to be college and/or career ready on a daily basis. Our district is known for offering quality education in a small-town environment with the amenities of a larger community (our district buildings are five minutes away from Applebee’s, Culver’s, Meijer, Walmart, etc.). Our county’s cost of living is incredibly low. We are a class “B” school (around 130 students per grade level) with a reputation for higher standards. We have the only inclusive preschool in the county. Our school is the community “hub” and Homecoming is still a big deal in our small town, which is the county seat. Our community is incredibly supportive of our district as well; our constituents passed a nearly $17 million bond in 2015 to upgrade our buildings and two more bonds in 2021, ($7 million). We have high-achieving athletic teams, and award-winning extra-curricular programs. We earned a $123,000 Michigan State Police competitive grant to upgrade security features in our buildings. We were the first district in the state to have an on-site health clinic for employees, (no copay for visits or prescriptions). QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated past ability to motivate and work with student/athletes. Experience in the sport of application is preferred. Possibly some athletic training experience or appropriate first aid. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods. Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend and reach. Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments. August Volunteer of the Month-Dave Brown Congratulation for making a difference as a volunteer! Dave Brown has been named the August Volunteer of the Month. Dave retired as a teacher at Corunna High School in May of 2005, after thirty-six years as a teacher. Dave said, “I volunteer because it gives me a chance to work with young children, which I have always enjoyed, ever since I started teaching.” Dave has volunteered for twenty-five years, since his time as a teacher. Dave said, “I started volunteering when my kids were in Odyssey of the Mind.” “Two of the best memories I have volunteering are two world championships for Odyssey of the Mind and two state championships in cross country,” said Dave. Dave said, “Three words that describe a true Cavalier are hardworking, dedicated and honest.” In his spare time, Dave enjoys caring for grandchildren. Lizzie Dettman also added. . . “And being one of the best coaches ever”! Dave’s family includes wife Bonnie, son Nathan, daughters Elizabeth and Kayla, and eight grandchildren.
