12.2.21 Fellow Cavaliers, This morning we went into secure mode regarding a potential threat made toward the High School on social media around 8:30 a.m. We became aware of the post when a CHS student reached out to the HS administration. Secure mode means we lock and close each classroom door, escort students to and from the restroom during the class period, and continue instruction. After the investigation by police (local and State Police) and district administration, which included a search by the State Police canine unit, we were given the all-clear around 10:15 a.m. We are now resuming our school day as normal. Our staff and students handled today exactly as they have been trained. As a reminder, we ask everyone to continue to report all suspicious or threatening activity, including social media posts, to law enforcement and/or school officials immediately. It takes all of us in our Cavalier family to remain vigilant and protect our children. Posting POSITION (Substitutes and Permanent) Corunna Public Schools is looking for an Associate Preschool Teacher. We are looking to hire only the best. JOB DESCRIPTION Plan and implement a full-day and/or a half day, preschool program for three-and four-year olds in the Great Start Readiness Program based on the research-based developmental philosophies. Plan and implement wrap-around childcare services for ages 3-12. Responsibilities will include team planning, supervision of children as well as conducting student and program evaluations, home visits, parent conferences and family activities, as required by the program Coordinator. Additional responsibilities will include childcare staffing as needed based on enrollment. We are a class “B” school (around 130 students per grade level) with a reputation for higher standards; as a result, nearly 40% of our students are school of choice. We have the only inclusive preschool in the county. Our school is the community “hub” and Homecoming is still a big deal in our small town, which is the county seat. Our community is incredibly supportive of our district as well. We have high-achieving athletic teams, and award-winning extra-curricular programs.Despite having nearly 40% of students coming to us via school of choice, our constituents passed a nearly $17 million bond a few years ago to upgrade our buildings and two more in 2021, ($7 million). We also were recently fortunate to have earned a $123,000 Michigan State Police competitive grant to upgrade security features in our buildings. First district in the state to have an on-site health clinic for employees, (free prescriptions) coming during the fall of 2021. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum CDA credential or willingness to actively pursue credential Experience working with groups of children Cheerful, mature, flexible, caring attitude Willingness to devote extra time, as needed, for meetings, inservices and parent/student programs Experience working cooperatively as a team member Regular and reliable attendance is required. Fellow Cavaliers, I am communicating with you this morning to let you know that the Board of Education accepted my recommendation last night for there to be no school next Monday (November 22) and Tuesday (November 23). Like most other schools in our county, we are continuing to deal with the constraints and number of positive cases and quarantine requirements (staff and students) and trying to ensure everyone’s health and well-being. I am meeting with administrators this morning to finalize the logistics (childcare, food distribution, etc.) and will send out more detailed information later today.
